Location New York
Citation
NYM(G.759.014
26 Feb 1759:11 (341)
The following lines were wrote on a particular occasion, but
the subject at this time is general; I therefore thought
proper to send them to you, without leave of the author; for
tho' the style and manner will easily point him out to many
of your readers, you may be assured he will excuse the
publication; being indifferent to either praise or censure,
for such petty compositions.
Yours, [signed] J.G.
TO S.B. ESQ;
ON THE DEATH OF HIS SON, COLONEL BEVER, WHO WAS KILLED IN
THE ENGAGEMENT AT TICONDEROGA.
"Tell me, says Cato, where you found
My boy!--and how he fell?--
In front;--and in his breast the wound.--
I thank the Gods:--'tis well."
